LEICAMAG was launched at a time when there were no country-specific Instagram accounts for regions like Germany, the UK, etc. On the official pages, the same photographers were repeatedly featured, and the curation was heading in a different direction. I saw the potential to show that there are many more works and people out there who deserve a platform.

 

LEICAMAG was the perfect name for that, and by now, it's a well-known term among Leica Camera photographers. I dare say that every one of them has heard of the page. I'm independent and not bound by any global editorial plan, which allows me to curate entirely according to my own taste.

"Pehle's dedication goes so far that he even created a platform for Leica photographers with LEICAMAG.

Just one and a half years after its launch, the independent Instagram account curated by him has more than 25,000 followers. “I do this out of passion and to show that Leica is much more than just classic reportage — it represents a wide range of subjects and styles,” says Pehle.

 

He also benefits personally, receiving a lot of positive feedback and inspiration. “I’m convinced that it’s the right thing to just go ahead and do something, even if there’s no immediate financial reward,” he says. “In the medium term, it will pay off in one way or another — I’m sure of that.”
